Santa Clara Plumbing Tip to SAVE you money from a
leading Santa Clara and San Jose pluming company!
All water heaters should be cleaned
every 1~2 years to remove sediment in the tank. If you don’t clean the tank,
your faucet would be possibly clogged by the sediment.
You need to shut the inlet water
valve off.
Open the drain valve at the bottom
side of water heater and also you need to disconnect water line. Otherwise, you
can’t drain perfectly because of vacuum situation in the tank. After draining
all the water, reconnect the water line and open the inlet valve and drain again
until the sediment comes out. If you think all the sediment is out, you can shut
the drain valve off and heat the water in the tank.

You need to check the pilot of the
water heater. If the pilot does not work even though the gas is on, you need to
change thermo coupler. The pilot light should be always on and it lets the
burner fire on. This pilot light is maintained by the thermo coupler. If the end
of the thermo coupler (placed just near by pilot tip like rectangular picture in
the right side picture) is worn out by using long time, pilot light will be off
and burner can’t get the fire. So water heater can’t make hot water. You can get
hot water again by changing the thermo coupler.

Tankless water heaters!
Tankless water heater is good for small space and energy effectiveness but cost
is much higher than regular water heater (not only water heater itself cost, but
also ventilation material cost is very expensive because of stainless double
wall) and can not save water for emergency case.
